So far DEWESoft was developed and used as a »simple data acquisition software«.
With version 7 we made a big step ahead to become a full featured software suite for test & measurement.
Post-processing and sequencing are just two peaces of the whole picture. At it's core, DEWESoft was
rewriten from the ground up to provide new solid foundations for feature growth and innovation.

Post-processing

During last years Dewesoft introduced many powerful math function like formulas, filters, statistics, power grid analyzer, frequency response functions, order tracking, torsional vibrations, engine combustion analyzer, sound analyzer, human vibration and others. A logical evolution in DEWESoft development was to be able to do those calculations even after the data had already been stored.

Now you can store the raw data and do all the processing offline, on any computer, anywhere. This allows you to work with the data as if you were at the test bench or on the proving ground. Math channels now have three basic modes:

On-line math - this is already well known math mode to DEWESoft 6 users. All math functions run in the measure mode and are calculated during acquisition.

Off-line math - where you set up the math function in the measure mode, but DEWESoft does not calculate it until later. Thus you can configure the functions ahead of time, and then just calculate them when recording is done.

100% offline - where you don't create any math functions in the measure mode. You can add and calculate any math channels that you need after you record the data in the measure mode.

Sequencing

A whole new function of sequencing allows customer to easily build the test procedures in a form of workflow diagram. A DEWESoft sequence can control virtually any part of software, load a setup, start the measurement, take actions based on real-time results (such as data values or user input), allowing user interaction (decisions or data entry), and so on.

Multimedia - The sequencer has all of the Windows multimedia features. You can instruct a squence to play a video or audio file, to guide the user through the measurement process or test procedure.

Voice output - All the sequence text instructions can be "spoken" due to the text to speech technology. Test operator does not have to look at the display and read the text - he can hear it, and react accordingly. See the demonstration on the video below.

Sequence management - sequences can be saved and reused just like setup files. But unlike setup files, they run at the "test executive" level, at the top of the software. This means that sequence can load any setup file, switch to a different one, and more. Build-in sequence editor allows you to create and edit sequences visually.

User interface

Version 6 user interface desing was already almost 10 years old, and even though nobody complained about that, it needed the refurbishment to lead again in user friendliness as well as in ease-of-use. DEWESoft 7 user interface was rewritten from the ground up. But we didn't want to simply change the buttons or the background color - we wanted to provide some new and useful capabilities and enhancements as well.

All the new shortcuts, panels and toolbars makes it a lot easier to work with large number of setup and data files. Toolbars and icons are grouped logically to provide you clear and easy access to desired function.

Open file structure

We got one a very nice quote from our customer in Australia: "Your Dewesoft to me seems to be the PDF of the instrument world". There was one small, but important thing missing, to really live up to this quote - standardized and open setup and data file structure.

In DEWESoft 7, the setup files are build in a form of transparent and very easy-to-understand XML structure. Each customer can therefore create their own setup just by using a simple text editor. The data files include the same header and store the binary data in database like structure. We are providing an API library to read and re-use stored data in other post-processing solutions.

More features

File browser - The new file browser is the first thing you experience in DEWESoft 7. It provides instant access to your setup, data and sequence files. We integrated all the common file related operations, such as copy, paste, rename and many more. Each DEWESoft file can be view as a large thumbnail, which can now include snapshot of the data file or any image selected by you. This way you will never have problems locating your files again.

Channel selector - Have problems with high channel count? Fear no more. DEWESoft 7 channel selector builds in such features as instant channel search and graphical presentation of different channel types. You can even display channels in tree like structure, alphabetically in a list or filter channels to the current selected visual instrument. If you simply need more space you can easily hide the channel selector panel and it will slide away and make space for your visual displays.

Custom displays - You are no longer limited to the standard Overview - Scope - Recorder screens! Now you can customize each one according to the needs of specific test. In the properties panel you can edit displays, create new displays, and rearrange them. You can rename any display, and select a different icon for it. Of course you can still add sub-displays like you could under DEWESoft 6.
